Roller Hockey: A Popular Sport in US
Except that Roller hockey is played on land instead of ice, it is similar ice hockey. Players wear skates with wheels, instead of wearing ice skates.
Quad and inline are the two different kinds of roller hockey. Traditional roller hockey is quad, in which players wear roller skates that have four wheels. Newer form of roller hockey is Inline hockey, where players wear inline skates.
Although the different skates lend to different types of action, both games are fast. Quad skates allow players to make fast maneuvers in any direction, compared to inline skates. Compared to quad skates, inline skates allow players to quickly race across the rink, much as ice hockey players do.
Roller hockey (quad) is played especially in Europe, even though it is played worldwide. In Portugal, Spain and Italy, are the standout clubs. In 1992, roller hockey was a demonstration sport in the Summer Olympics in Barcelona. Roller hockey is also called hardball hockey, international style ball hockey, quad hockey and rink hockey.
Roller hockey (inline) is strongest in the United States and is also played worldwide, which has dominated the Inline Hockey World Championships. Inline hockey is also known as road hockey, street hockey, ball hockey and skater hockey.
